Dr. Paul Wiegand is a graduate of the University of Texas, Baylor College of Dentistry and the University of Toronto. Dr. Wiegand is San Antonio’s only dual- board-certified clinician in Pediatric and Orthodontic Dentistry and the only one in South Texas. He joined the San Antonio community in 1987, and is a Diplomate of the Pediatric Dentistry and American Board of Orthodontics. He is currently Assistant Professor in Orthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where he has taught since 1987. He lives with his three children, Jon, Julia and Kerry. Tennis is an important activity to the Wiegands. Jon was recruited and played varsity tennis at the University of Texas at Austin graduating in December of 2010 with degree in Economics. He also completed pre-med and pre-dent requirements and is deciding on where to go to graduate school. Julia was a state-ranked tennis player and now is a student-athlete at the University of Texas. A Psychology major, Julia has been a member of the UT Varsity women’s tennis team for the last 3 years. Kerry is a junior in high school and a state ranked tennis player too!
Dr. Wiegand, who helped pay for his education at UT with a tennis scholarship, still enjoys playing tournaments, coaching junior tennis players and is a USPTA certified tennis professional. Dr. Wiegand served as President of the Texas Association of Orthodontics (2005-2006) and is current president of the San Antonio Orthodontists Study Group. He enjoys playing the guitar and the last few years been seen playing in a band floating down the San Antonio River in the Fiesta River Parade for the San Antonio Dental Society….assuming he can’t get a match on the tennis court!
